SACPA to host panel discussion on addictions

The Southern Alberta Council on Public Affairs (SACPA) will hold a panel discussion on addictions on May 15. The event will be at the Lethbridge Public Library theatre gallery and will feature a question and answer period with panelists who have a range of experience working with addictions.

Bonnie Lee is an associate professor in the addictions counselling program at the University of Lethbridge, as well as a social worker and couple and family therapist who works with addictions.

Chelsey DeGroot is the regional director of Drug Treatment Court McMan Youth, Family and Community Services Association. She has worked within the field of addiction for the past 16 years in various capacities such as Housing First, supervised consumption services and the justice system.

Dr. Esther Tailfeathers is senior medical director of Provincial Indigenous Wellness Core at Alberta Health Services. She has worked with many First Nations, including the Blood Reserve for almost 20 years.

Robin James is chief administrative officer of Lethbridge Housing Authority. She uses the housing continuum to explain individual housing needs and says supportive housing is needed in Lethbridge to ensure people don’t fall back into homelessness.

Dennis Bremner is a Lethbridge resident and concerned citizen.

The event starts at 6 p.m. with introductions from each panelist. Questions will begin at 7 p.m. and the discussion is set to run until 8 p.m.
