ASIRT investigating Lethbridge Police in-custody injury

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating after a man was injured while in Lethbridge Police custody.

Last Wednesday (May 29) , a 23 year old man suffered a minor nose injury and went into medical distress while in the back of a marked LPS vehicle.

The man was seen going in and out of consciousness and was taken to hospital for treatment.

ASIRT says the full cause and extent of what happened remains under investigation, however independent evidence has confirmed the man purposely hit his own head while inside the police vehicle, causing the nose injury.

Given the man’s injuries occurred while in police custody, ASIRT has been asked to investigate.
