Lethbridge fire crews battle large west side apartment blaze

A large apartment fire in west Lethbridge Friday morning (Oct. 9) at Woodsmere Manor off Walsh Drive West.

Emergency crews are on scene with a huge response by the fire department and EMS.

Lethbridge Fire Chief Marc Rathwell says it’s believed the blaze started in a second floor apartment unit and spread to the third floor and attic, however investigators will still have to work to find exactly what happened.

All four fire stations in Lethbridge responded to the call which impacted 36 units inside the complex. No injuries are reported at this time, however one firefighter was sent to hospital as a precaution.

The City, working with Alberta Health Services and Canadian Red Cross managed supports for those on scene arranging medical needs, transportation and lodging. Residents will be unable to return to the building due to heavy fire, smoke and water damage. Anyone who evacuated and left the scene can connect with the Red Cross at 1-888-800-6493 for support.

The blaze was fully extinguished within two hours. The fire is under investigation.
