Winter Light Festival given go-ahead to continue amid new COVID restrictions

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Winter Light Festival at Nikka Yuko Japanese Garden has been given the go-ahead to continue amid the strict new COVID-19 health measures announced earlier this week.

There are however, some new rules to follow.

Masks or face coverings are mandatory for everyone and are required inside and outside.

You may only attend the festival with people in your own household cohort and if you arrive in a group larger than that, you’ll be asked to stagger your entry and stay two-metres away from them.

Only 100 people are allowed inside the garden per half-hour time slot and tickets must be booked in advance.

Shakespeare events and horse and wagon rides have been cancelled but if you have tickets you can choose to still attend the garden on the date and time they were originally purchased for and will be refunded any additional costs.

Nikka Yuko’s Executive Director, Michelle Day, says “we are in an unprecedented time and our team has had to adapt and change our plans very quickly.” She says “we appreciate all the messages we’ve received from our community in support of our festival and have been working hard to ensure we can still provide this slice of normalcy and joy after a difficult year.”

Day is asking everyone to respect garden staff and the new regulations so that the Winter Light Festival can remain open through to the end of January as originally planned.
