CALGARY, AB – A Calgary man, facing drug trafficking charges, is accused of trying to ship about 3 kilograms of methamphetamine to Australia.
Back in September 2020, officers with the Canada Border Services Agency found two boxes of crystalline powder (later confirmed as meth) that were destined for overseas.
The case was turned over to the Integrated Border Enforcement team which consists of RCMP, CBSA and Calgary police officers.
Several months later, in mid-February, 31 year old Akhif Alaudin Alibhai was charged with:
- Exportation of a Controlled Substance under section 6(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
- Exportation of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking under section 6(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act; and
- Smuggling Out of Canada under section 159(2) of the Customs Act.

Alibhai was released on bail to appear in a Calgary courtroom on Wednesday, March 11.
