First Lethbridge, now Medicine Hat stepping up downtown foot patrols

Lethbridge isn’t the only community stepping up patrols downtown.

The Medicine Hat Police Service is testing out a new unit consisting of four constables and a supervisor who are providing an increased police presence downtown.

They’ll be patrolling there until mid-September and then the unit will be evaluated.

The goal of the temporary unit is a reduction in crime and anti-social behaviour and an increased feeling of safety in downtown Medicine Hat and enhanced relationships with the police service.

Here in Lethbridge, the LPS recently launched its downtown Watch program, in an effort to curb safety concerns in the area.
