Beefed up police resources will be out during Street Machine Weekend

LETHBRIDGE, AB – With the popular Street Machine Weekend back this year, Lethbridge Police will be out and about and stepping up enforcement.

The event takes place this Friday through Sunday, July 9-11.

The beefed up police resources people will see this weekend are in response to a growing number of public complaints in recent months about loud mufflers, racing, and stunting.

Over the last several months, Lethbridge Police officers have been issuing tickets for equipment violations, however they contend that enforcement hasn’t proven to be a strong enough deterrent.

As a result, police here are going to crack down a little more. They plan to use Section 66 of the Traffic Safety Act, which allows them to do on-scene vehicle inspections. LPS say those folks found to have equipment violations can have their registration and licence plate seized and their vehicle towed.

LPS say the intention is not to put a damper on those drivers who are being respectful of others on city roads.
