First Alberta Summer Games in 5 years to be shared by Okotoks and Black Diamond

OKOTOKS, AB – Two southern Alberta communities will share hosting duties for the 2023 Alberta Summer Games.

The province announced Monday a $420,000 operating grant to the Okotoks/Black Diamond Summer Games Society.

It’ll be the first summer games since the 2018 event in Grande Prairie.

Lethbridge was set to host the 2020 Alberta Summer Games before the pandemic forced its postponement.

It was initially pushed to this summer but ended up being cancelled due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.

Culture Minster Ron Orr says “the 2023 Alberta Summer Games will be a testament to the recovery and resilience of our whole province, quite frankly, and people from across the province will be excited to be a part of it, to see it either locally or broadcast in different ways.”

The 2023 Alberta Summer Games are expected to generate about $3-million in economic benefits for Okotoks, Black Diamond and surrounding areas.
