Shoes for Kids YQL more than doubles collection goal

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Organizers of the Shoes for Kids YQL campaign are “beyond honoured” by the generosity of southern Alberta.

The initiative officially wrapped up on Sunday (Aug. 15) with one final shoe drive, after collecting shoes and money since early July.

Even though some last-minute donations are still trickling in, the goal of collecting 200 pairs of runners – which will be given to kids in need before the start of the school year – was more than doubled.

Organizer Mallory Kristjanson says 485 pairs of shoes have been donated, as well as $16,000 in cash.

Shoes for Kids YQL teamed up with RBC, the Lethbridge Police Service, Blood Tribe Police and Piikani RCMP to make a positive difference in Lethbridge.

Sam Borsato

I started my radio career in 2015, shortly after graduating from Lethbridge College. I have a very strong passion for local news.

Proudly born in 1994, I grew up most of my life in Sylvan Lake, AB and I’ve lived in the Lethbridge since 2012. I’m a below average golfer on a good day, I take as many hiking trips to Waterton as possible in the summer and I love my two cats, Outlaw and Jynx, and my dog, Maverick, more than most people I know.

I look forward to providing accurate, timely news coverage in southern Alberta for plenty of years to come!
