Impaired drivers taken off city streets in Lethbridge Police holiday check stops

LETHBRIDGE, AB – It was a busy weekend for the Lethbridge Police Service’s annual holiday check stop campaign.

This past weekend, officers checked 350 vehicles.

Those check stop efforts resulted in two immediate roadside sanctions for failing a breathalyzer test, two other sanctions for people blowing .05 or more, and one sanction for zero alcohol tolerance with a graduated driver’s licence.

Anyone who fails a roadside screening test must take an educational course and have an ignition interlock device installed in their vehicle before they can get their licence back.

LPS also arrested one suspended driver this past weekend, issued 30 violation tickets, and arrested one person for public intoxication.

Check stops will continue for the rest of this month.
