Winter Storm WATCH for southwest Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Conditions across parts of southern Alberta are going to get blustery to start off the new year.

Blizzard conditions are expected Saturday.

Early Saturday morning strong west winds with gusts exceeding 100 km/h are expected to create near zero visibility in blowing snow near the foothills. Throughout the day Saturday the strong winds will spread eastward bringing blizzard conditions to Lethbridge by Saturday evening.

Blizzard conditions are forecast to subside early Sunday morning as the temperature rises to above zero.

The strong west winds with gusts near 100 km/h will continue through the day Sunday before subsiding Sunday night.

Travel is expected to be hazardous due to reduced visibility in some locations.

Avoid travel if possible.
