Lethbridge’s Christmas Check Stop Campaign wraps for another year

LETHBRIDGE, AB – It turned out to be a very busy holiday check stop season for Lethbridge Police.

Over the course of the last month, officers took a dozen impaired drivers off the roads.

LPS checked close to 1,800 vehicles during this check stop campaign.

Acting Traffic Staff Sergeant Brent Paxman, says this year they exceeded what they were hoping for as far as numbers, including both vehicles checked and the amount of impaired drivers adding “we’re getting a high percentage of compliance, which is good for anyone on the road.”

People who fail immediate roadside sanctions have to participate in an educational course and have an ignition interlock device installed in their vehicle before they can apply to get their licence back.

In addition to the impaired drivers, Lethbridge Police also caught three suspended drivers this season and issued 84 traffic tickets for various infractions.
