Avalanche near Waterton Lakes National Park; No injuries reported

WATERTON PARK, AB – No one was injured after an avalanche a few days ago near Waterton Lakes National Park.

Officials with Parks Canada say it occurred some time between last Saturday and Sunday on Bertha Peak.

With a rapid warm up this week, that’s prompted an elevated risk for snow slides.

In a news release, officials say the avalanche deposited roughly 10 metres of debris on the Bertha Falls trail in one location and the slide stopped before Evergreen Avenue South in the Waterton townsite.

If you are heading to Waterton, be advised that access past Cameron Falls is not recommended right now because of the risk of more avalanches.

The Akamina Parkway is also closed until further notice.
