Lethbridge Legion to hold memorial for Queen Elizabeth

The Lethbridge Legion will hold a memorial ceremony for Queen Elizebeth on Monday, the day of her funeral. It will begin at 10:45 a.m. at the Cenotaph in front of the Yates Theatre. Glenn Miller, co chair of the Legion’s public relations committee, said it will follow a similar format to a Remembrance Day ceremony, but will be focused on the queen.

“The City of Lethbridge has purchased one wreath, which will be the only wreath to be laid officially during the program,” he said. “It’s larger than a normal poppy wreath, befitting the head of state, obviously being the queen. Anyone else after the service who would like to lay something at the wreath, whether it be poppies or wreaths themselves that they make.”

The president of the legion branch will be the only speaker and Miller said the ceremony will include a rendition of God Save the King, which will become the new royal anthem.

Miller said almost all the war vets in the Legion have only known the one monarch in their lifetime.
