Former Lethbridge College soccer player preparing for Parapan American Games

In less than a month, a former Lethbridge College Kodiaks soccer player will be heading to Lima, Peru to take part in the 2019 Parapan American Games.

20 year old Payden Olsen lost her right foot in a lawnmower accident last summer and has since found a new passion in Sitting Volleyball.

The Cardston native says she was introduced to the sport when members of Team Canada paid her a visit while she was recovering in hospital.

In fairly short order, Olsen found herself up in Edmonton practicing with them. Now, she’s part of the team.

Olsen says she doesn’t really know what to expect from her first major, international tournament but is excited for the experience, is eager to get better at the sport and is looking forward to what’s to come.

The Canadian women can qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games if they finish first or second in Lima.

Olsen and Team Canada arrive in Peru August 17th and begin their round robin tournament the following weekend.
