Lethbridge Air Quality Index expected to worsen as wildfire smoke blankets region

According to the City of Lethbridge with the current smoke that can be seen in and around the city, Lethbridge is sitting a three on the Air Quality Health Index. With the current rating the city and area is sitting on the low risk side of the scale, but is expected to move to a four later Tuesday, bumbing the risk up to moderate.

According to the city a shift in the wind in Northern Alberta has played part in the smokes arrival as winds of up to 50 kilometres an hour have pushed wildfire smoke into southern Alberta.

In a statement the city says “As wind speeds pick up over the next couple of days, the smoke is expected to become worse in and around the city.”

Earlier Tuesday Environment Canada issued an Air Quality Statement for the city and region.
