Psych assessment extended for man accused of beating Lethbridge woman

More time is needed to complete a psychiatric assessment for a 21-year old Ottawa man, who’s accused of viciously assaulting an elderly woman in her home.

A letter from the Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Centre indicates another 30 days is required to determine if Adam Hobkirk-Onate can be held criminally responsible for the alleged incident. The assessment began in late June.

Hobkirk-Onate is accused of sneaking into the basement of a 75-year old woman on Fairway Street South in May, staying there for a day and then beating her with a bicycle and stealing her vehicle. He’s charged with aggravated assault, housebreaking and disguise with intent.

A judge agreed to the time extension Friday (July 26) in Lethbridge Provincial Court. Hobkirk-Onate will be back in court Aug. 23.
