Students at Lethbridge College could be facing increased fines if they are caught parking without a permit.
The college has applied to City Council to amend a local traffic bylaw in order to raise parking fines to $50. That would be reduced to $35 if paid within seven days.
Tickets are currently $30, but are reduced to $15 if paid in a week.
Lethbridge College notes in its submission to Council, “the current fine structure is insufficient to encourage those parking on its grounds to purchase the required permit.”

The amendment would only cover the college’s parking lots.
If passed, the change would come into effect Sept. 1.
