Driver involved in pedestrian collision early Saturday morning will not be charged: Lethbridge Police

Lethbridge Police Service are continuing to investigate the pedestrian collision from Saturday morning after a 37-year-old woman was struck along Whoop-Up Drive.

On August 19, at 2:14 a.m., LPS responded to reports of a woman struck by a vehicle in the westbound lanes of Whoop Up Drive, just 200 metres west of the bridge deck. EMS transported the woman to hospital in critical condition where she remains with life-threatening injuries.

An investigation into the incident by members of the Traffic Response Unit determined that a Jeep Grand Cherokee was travelling westbound in the centre lane when a woman dressed in darker clothing ran northbound across the lanes and was struck. Alcohol and speed appeared to not be a factor in the collision and the driver will not be facing any charges.

The investigation is still ongoing and it’s unknown why the woman ran into traffic.
