A few more distracted driving tickets handed out over the Heritage Day long weekend compared to last year.

RCMP say officers conducted enforcement initiatives across the province from August 2nd to 5th and focused on distracted driving.

There were 68 tickets issued this year – up from 63 last year.

The penalty for distracted driving is a $287 fine and three demerit points.

Mounties are reminding motorists that distracted driving can be extremely dangerous and that drivers and riders should always make sure their focus is on the road.
