AUMA President makes stops in southern Alberta

A couple of southern Alberta stops for the President of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association this week.

Barry Morishita says he likes visiting communities so he can get a better understanding of what local governments are advocating for on a provincial and federal level.

Morishita was in Lethbridge and the Crowsnest Pass on Wednesday.

He anticipated a lot of talk surrounding the city’s supervised consumption services and related supports like intox, detox and supportive housing.

He tells MyLethbridgeNow.com that each community has its own unique challenges but “when they’re cross-jurisdictional like addiction, mental health, homelessness , they don’t just belong in a community, they belong to all of us and there has to be a recognition that you have to sit down and find solutions that fit a community.”

This is the second year in a row Morishita has crisscrossed Alberta to hear feedback on important issues facing municipalities.
