13 year old cyclist hit by car, taken to Calgary Children’s Hospital with head injuries

A young cyclist is recovering in hospital after he was hit by a car Friday night.

Police say the 13 year old boy was eastbound on Astra Street around 8pm when he rode in front of a vehicle heading south on Dieppe Boulevard.

It was dark and the boy didn’t have a light on his bike.

He also wasn’t wearing a helmet.

The teen was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital with head injuries and later transferred to Calgary Children’s Hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Police say no charges are pending against the 64 year old driver.

The LPS is also reminding the public that cyclists under 18 are required by law to wear a helmet and those over 18 are strongly encouraged to wear one.

All bicycles must also have a headlamp.
