Midwifery services to be available at Chinook Regional Hospital starting in October

Full midwifery services will be available at Chinook Regional Hospital starting next month.

As of October 7th, five registered midwives will join the hospital’s maternal health care team, giving women with low-risk pregnancies more choice for care.

Health Minister, Tyler Shandro, says more and more families are turning to midwives and the government is committed to working with Alberta Health Services to increase access to midwifery services.

An information session about the expansion of midwifery services will take place at Chinook Regional Hospital Monday evening from 5 to 7pm.

There are currently 145 registered midwives working with AHS sites and programs across the province.

About 3,500 Alberta families used midwifery services over the past year which is a 50% increase since 2014-2105.
