End in Sight: Whoop-Up Drive bridge construction finally wrapping up

It has been frustrating for many people driving to and from the west side over the last several months, however construction is expected to wrap up on the Whoop-Up Drive bridge coating project by the end of this week with all lanes re-opening to traffic.

The City of Lethbridge says starting the evening of October 24th, contractors will reduce westbound Whoop-Up Drive to one lane as they remove the construction barriers. On the evening of October 25, eastbound traffic will be reduced to a single lane for the same purpose.

Both of these closures will be in place from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. to minimize the impact to traffic. The road will be fully open in both directions the morning of Saturday, October 26.

The City says the project was required to protect the bridge and maintain safe conditions for residents.

The lengthy process of removing existing paint, sand blasting and re-painting the structure started this spring and was completed on-time, despite the early snow fall.
