Woman found in medical distress while in Blood Tribe Police custody

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating after a woman detained at the Blood Tribe Police Service was found in medical distress.

Officials say the 35 year old woman was arrested for causing a disturbance at a home on the Blood Reserve just before 11am Saturday.

Prior to her arrest she had been complaining about a sore head, back and wrist and EMS was called to assess the woman.

Twelve hours later, just before 11pm Saturday, she was found in medical distress at police detention facilities and EMS was called again.

The woman was taken to hospital where she remains.

ASIRT says they were called in to investigate because her condition deteriorated while in custody.

The investigation will focus on whether police conduct caused or contributed to the medical distress.
