UPDATE: RCMP say Nobleford man & his uncle were victims of homicide

Police in northern Alberta now say two men, one from Nobleford found dead on a rural road west of Bonnyville last weekend were murdered.

RCMP have arrested one person in connection with the killings. The suspect…..31 year old Anthony Bilodeau of Glendon, AB is facing two counts of second degree murder.

He turned himself in this week.

Police have now identified those killed as 39 year old Jake Sansom of Nobleford and his uncle, 59 year old Morris Cardinal of Bonnyville, AB. The two men were hunting and fishing up north at the time.

RCMP Major Crimes says the investigation has determined a verbal then physical confrontation took place between the occupants of two vehicles. A third vehicle arrived on the scene and several shots were fired.

Autposies confirm the deaths of Sansom and Cardinal were from gunshot wounds.

Sansom was a volunteer firefighter in Nobleford and friends say he went up north after getting laid off from his job here because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bilodeau is expected to appear in court in St. Paul next Thursday (Apr. 9).
