Blood Tribe family fundraising to get member back to Canada, who died of COVID-19

BLOOD RESERVE, AB – A family on the Blood Reserve is reaching out for community support to try to bring a family member home from the United States, who recently passed away due to COVID-19.

The family of Waylon Blood says he’d been working and living in Tucson, Arizona for a few years. He became sick with COVID-19 just after Christmas and, sadly, passed away shortly after.

Blood grew up in southern Alberta, and his family would like to make it his final resting place. However, moving a body comes with a high price, costing thousands of dollars.

His siblings have organized a 50/50 raffle fundraiser for $10 per ticket, and they’re also accepting e-transfer donations for the family or Cornerstone Funeral Home, which they have chosen to help them get Waylon back to Canada and host his service at a later date.

Raffle tickets can be purchased by e-transferring [email protected]. The draw is set to take place on Facebook on Jan. 24.
