Active COVID cases in Lethbridge increase; additional death in Cardston County

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A handful of new COVID-19 cases in the South Zone of Alberta Health Services over the past day.

Out of the 28 total cases confirmed, 10 of them were in Lethbridge, which brings the number of active cases from 142 to 147 when recoveries are factored in.

Cardston County reported 11 new cases of the virus as well as an additional death involving a woman in her 40’s.

AHS says comorbidities are unknown at this time.

Provincially, there were 421 new cases for positivity rate of 3.6 percent.

As of Feb. 3, there had been 68 variant cases of COVID-19 identified.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw also took time Thursday to alert Albertans of a scam targeting people over the age of 75.

It claims seniors can be vaccinated for a fee.

Hinshaw says all vaccines will be free once they are available.

A total of 112,388 doses of vaccine had been administered in Alberta as of Feb.3.
