Armed, barricaded man safely taken into custody on Blood Reserve

BLOOD RESERVE, AB – Blood Tribe Police, with help from nearby RCMP, were able to safely deal with an armed and barricaded person on the reserve earlier this week.

Officers were asked to remove an intoxicated man from a rural home on the Blood Reserve around 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 10). By the time they arrived, though,  the man had moved to a nearby camper trailer and refused to come out.

One officer watched the suspect through a window load a gun and point it toward the door of the trailer, where another officer was about to knock. Both safely re-positioned, then called on the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Service for assistance.

The man was finally taken into custody several hours later at around 3:20 a.m. on Thursday (Feb. 11).

Leon Good Dagger, 45 of the Blood Tribe, has since be charged with several firearms offences. He is currently in custody waiting to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court later this month.

I started my radio career in 2015, shortly after graduating from Lethbridge College. I have a very strong passion for local news. Proudly born in 1994, I grew up most of my life in Sylvan Lake, AB and I've lived in the Lethbridge since 2012. I'm a below average golfer on a good day, I take as many hiking trips to Waterton as possible in the summer and I love my two cats, Outlaw and Jynx, and my dog, Maverick, more than most people I know. I look forward to providing accurate, timely news coverage in southern Alberta for plenty of years to come!
