Massive meth bust at Coutts leads to 11 year prison term for Calgary man

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A Calgary man will be spending the next eleven years in jail for trying to bring a massive amount of drugs through the Coutts border crossing southeast of Lethbridge.

Back in July 2019, officers with the Canada Border Services Agency discovered 33 bags of methamphetamine weighing in at 50-kilograms.

At the time, it was the largest meth seizure made by the CBSA in southern Alberta, equating to roughly 500,000 doses.

41 year old Asif Mir was found guilty in early Feb. 2021 of importation of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

In addition to his eleven year prison term, he’ll be under a life-long firearms ban.
