A No Go: Lethbridge Rotary Dragon Boat Festival postponed to 2022

LETHBRIDGE, AB – There will be no local Dragon Boat Festival again this year.

After plenty of consultation, the planning committee with the Rotary Clubs of Lethbridge and Alberta Health, it’s be decided the 2021 event will not go ahead.

Committee Chair, Diane Randell says the health, safety and well-being of all those involved with the festival is paramount.

She says due to additional risks imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic with an event such as this, the committee will focus efforts on 2022 and beyond.

“We look forward to exceeding the long-standing expectations of our festival and to hosting our community, visitors, and athletes (local and out of town, out of province and country) in 2022 at the most renowned Dragon Boat Festival in Western Canada,” said Randell in a media release on Thursday.

The Dragon Boat festival is usually held in June each year at Henderson Lake.

Next year’s event with mark the 20th anniversary.
