Lethbridge man dies after accident near Castle Mountain

A young Lethbridge man has died after an accident Saturday (June 15) at Castle Mountain.

Pincher Creek RCMP responded to a request for assistance at 2:00 pm of a skier who fell down a rocky slope on Mount Haig near the Castle Mountain Ski Resort after being hit by loose rock. The two skiers with him attempted first aid, and were joined by other hikers who were in the nearby area of Haig Lake.

RCMP along with Pincher Creek Emergency Services and Provincial Parks Conservation Officers were called out as well.

Alpine Helicopters out of Canmore responded and located the 22 year old man who was declared dead. Alpine Helicopters with rescue technicians from Alberta Provincial Parks and Waterton Lakes National Park had to complete a long line recovery of the male.

Family members of the 22 year old from Lethbridge were on scene.

Castle Mountain Ski Resort and staff assisted in this difficult recovery. STARS air ambulance was also called out

RCMP along with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continue to investigate.  Further information is not available at this time.
