Complete fire ban issued in Lethbridge County

Lethbridge County, AB – Burning is off-limits in Lethbridge County for the foreseeable future.

On Monday afternoon, the County issued a complete fire ban with extreme hot and dry weather forecast to continue for an extended period of time.

All active fire permits within Lethbridge County have now been cancelled. The County stresses that burning of any kind is prohibited including burning in a barrel, recreational fire pits, household garbage, and yard debris. Fireworks are also banned.

Fires though, used for cooking like gas or propane barbecues are still OK.

Extreme conditions have elevated the wildfire risk very quickly as things have dried out fast. Earlier in the day on Monday fire restrictions were issued in the MD of Willow Creek, Vulcan County and County of Newell.

Fire advisories were issued as well for the MD of Pincher Creek and Calgary Forest Area which includes the Crowsnest Pass.

Additional fire bans may be issued in the coming days as conditions get hotter and hotter.
