Alberta officially open again, most pandemic restrictions no longer in effect

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Many Albertans are tossing aside their masks as the province has reopened after 16 months of COVID-19 health measures.

As of now, there are no longer limits on indoor and outdoor gatherings, no size limits on weddings and funerals, no capacity limits at places of worship, and the Alberta-wide masking mandate is gone. People can still wear a mask if they so choose.

So far nearly 73% of eligible Albertans have received their first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and over 42% are now doubled-dosed and fully-vaccinated as of July 1st.

Premier Jason Kenney issued a statement on Canada Day saying this is a fantastic day for Alberta.

“We’ve crushed COVID-19 and with cases plummeting and vaccine uptake climbing, we are open for summer,” said Kenney. “With vaccines by our side, Albertans can get back to their normal lives.”

Limited health measures remain in effect like at continuing care and acute care settings. Masking will still be required on public transit, in taxis and in ride shares. Other than that, it is now your choice when is comes to face coverings.
