LETHBRIDGE, AB – The number of people vying for mayor in this fall’s municipal election is now down to five.
Bradley Whalen, who was one of the first to declare a mayoral candidacy this spring, says he’s decided to take a shot at a council seat instead.
He’s now endorsing Blaine Hyggen for Mayor, saying their campaigns are very similar and he’d rather work on a team with Hyggen than run against him.
“We both have a lot of common goals and common interests as far as where we want to see the city go in regards to the third bridge and working more with small businesses and trying to revive the downtown and just in general our platforms are very closely aligned.”
Whalen adds “at the end of the day, I’d rather work on a team with Blaine than work against him so that’s why I chose to withdraw my name, endorse him and run for a council seat so at least both of us have the opportunity to work for the betterment of the city.”
With the addition of Whalen, there are now 12 people running for eight council seats (who had filed nomination papers as of Tuesday).
The civic election is set for October 18th.
