Arson charge laid in south Lethbridge apartment fire

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Charges have been laid in connection to a south side apartment fire from earlier this week.

26 year old Stuward Sunchild of Lethbridge is facing one count of arson.

He’s also been charged with assault and mischief in relation to a separate incident from the same day.

Fire crews from three stations were called to the blaze along Ashgrove Road at 8:40pm Tuesday.

The fire, in the basement of the apartment, was quickly extinguished and contained to one suite though damage was pegged at about $100,000.

At the time, investigators said they believed the fire was intentionally set.

Sunchild is due in court Friday, July 16.
