A young Lethbridge girl has received some recognition from City Council.
Last week, Mayor Chris Spearman presented 10 year old Nycea Hazelwood with a special gift, after the Ecole Agnes Davidson student put together a video about Truth and Reconciliation.
Hazlewood is taking part in a “Young Citizens” competition which is put together by Canada’s History magazine in which students submit videos talking about aspects of our country’s history.
Hazelwood says she feels Reconciliation is a very important topic. “Because we wronged the First Nations through residential schools and through taking their land and forcing them on to reserves. We need to show we are sorry and that we recognize we made a mistake.”
Mayor Spearman says recognizing young leaders in our community shows they are both appreciated and valued.
Hazelwood says in her video she talks about why we need to reconcile, how we are reconciling and what reconciliation is.
