Medicine Hat woman charged with first degree murder after body found near Pincher Creek

PINCHER CREEK, AB – A first degree murder charge has been laid against a Medicine Hat woman after the discovery of a body near Pincher Creek.

26 year old Melissa Martens-Lagasse is also charged with indignity to human remains.

RCMP Major Crimes released a composite sketch of the deceased woman last Saturday, Nov. 20 in an attempt to identify her.

Now, they say 34 year old Megan Eekma was met with foul play.

RMCP say Eekma has lived in various southern Alberta communities in recent years and knew the accused.

Mounties allege the women were traveling together from British Columbia to Alberta and during the trip, “an interaction occurred “ which resulted in Eekma’s death.

Martens-Lagasse remains in custody and was set to appear in Lethbridge Provincial Court Thursday, Nov. 25.
