Alberta dinosaur track site getting virtual reality boost from Lethbridge College

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The virtual reality team at Lethbridge College is bringing an Alberta heritage site to life.

The Grande Cache Dinosaur Track is located northwest of Edmonton on the edge of the Rocky Mountains. It happens to be the only large-scale exposure of dino tracks in the country.

The heritage site isn’t able to bring people to see the tracks in-person because of logistical and safety reasons, so Lethbridge College has stepped in to help out.

The V.R. team used a special technique to capture close up, detailed imagery of the dinosaur tracks. Along with audio and guided narration, visitors can now experience these tracks virtually, without ever leaving the Grande Cache Tourism Centre.

These dinosaur tracks were preserved under layers of rock and until they were found in the 1980’s through open-pit mining, they had remained undiscovered for more than 90 million years.
