$5.8 million from federal government for new Lethbridge compost facility

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge is getting a big chunk of cash from the federal government to help build an organic waste composting facility.

The more than $5.8 million is coming from the Canada Community Building Fund.

Lethbridge East MLA, Nathan Neudorf says each year the Province of Alberta looks to provide key infrastructure dollars in partnership with Ottawa.

He says the city had identified the need for a composting facility and he looks forward to this project being finished and operational.

This past November, the province provided more than $4.5 million toward this same project. With these federal dollars, that brings the total grant money to over $10 million.

The City of Lethbridge plans to begin a curbside organics pilot project this spring with about two thousand homes.
