University of Lethbridge faculty begin strike

For the first time in the school’s history, faculty at the University of Lethbridge are on strike.

After meeting this morning negotiations between the University of Lethbridge Faculty Association and the University’s Board of Governors have broken down. At 11:00 a.m. the union began legal strike action and are picketing at the school.

Negotiations have been going on for over 600 days and have resulted in just minimal movement at the bargaining table. The union says outstanding issues include working conditions, collegial governance, and equitable pay and benefits.

Union President Dan O’Donnell will be providing an update at 1:30 pm. We will have more information for you as it becomes available. The university had not commented on the labour disruption yet.
