Seedy Saturday Returns After Two Year Hiatus

Lethbridge, AB – Environment Lethbridge is ready to help the city jump into spring. Seedy Saturday is returning as an in-person event for the first time since 2019. Featuring a seed swap and exhibitors focused on local food and gardening, this free event will be held April 23 from 1-4 pm at Casa (230 8 Street South).

“Seedy Saturday is an opportunity to learn about gardening, local food and the environment,” explains Kathleen Sheppard, Executive Director with Environment Lethbridge. “We have some great exhibitors, including some new faces and everything is free.” This year’s Seedy Saturday will feature more than a dozen local businesses and community organizations providing information about local food, pollinators, gardening and more.

Registered exhibitors include Livingston Farms, the sill and soil, and Ladybug Arborists. Seedy Saturday will also feature a seed swap where anyone can bring seeds to trade or simply take new seeds to try. “The seed swap is a highlight of Seedy Saturday events,” says Sheppard. “We invite everyone to bring their extra seeds to trade for something new.

Gardeners who don’t have seeds to trade are welcome to take seeds home to try as well.” Seedy Saturday events are held across Canada. Intended to provide a forum for community members who are interested in environmentally friendly garden practices to learn and share ideas, more than 100 Seedy Saturday events are held across the country each year.

Environment Lethbridge encourages all visitors to consider masking, physical distancing, and hand sanitization during the event to keep everyone safe. For more information, including a complete list of exhibitors and workshops, please visit www.seedysaturdayyql.com.
