RCMP in Alberta is investigating an incident that saw a verbal tirade unleashed against Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland.

A video posted on social media last Friday shows a man approaching Freeland as she got onto an elevator in Grande Prairie, calling her a traitor and telling her to leave the province.

Police have now confirmed to the Vista Radio National News Desk that the incident is being investigated locally through the General Investigation Section.

RCMP spokeswoman Robin Percival says in a statement that physical or verbal actions in person or online can have significant effects and may be against the law.
