Rifle and drugs seized from Medicine Hat home, one arrested

One man is facing multiple charges after a variety of weapons and drugs were seized from a home in Medicine Hat home. The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) seized fentanyl, methamphetamine and weapons, including a rifle, from an alleged drug dealer’s home on Aug. 30.

The ALERT Medicine Hat regional propriety crime unit executed a search warrant in the Southwest Hill area, with help from the Medicine Hat Police Service.

Weapons seized include a rifle and ammunition, crossbow, taser, dart launcher. There was also 15 grams of fentanyl, 31 grams of methamphetamine and $6,300 in cash.

“Clearly there were variety of dangerous weapons seized during this investigation and what’s most concerning is the home’s proximity to a junior high school. Anytime drugs and weapons mix it poses a threat to public safety and community well-being,” said Staff Sgt. Ryan Thorburn, ALERT Medicine Hat.

James McNulty, 41, faces charges of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of proceeds of crime and unauthorized possession of identity documents.

McNulty was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 29.
