Exhibition Park developing cannabis policy for Whoop-Up Days

A policy should be in place in few weeks regarding the use of marijuana on the grounds at Exhibition Park.

Whoop-Up Days takes place starting August 20th this year.

Mike Warkentin with Lethbridge Exhibition Park says it won’t be banned in terms of possession, however they are working with the AGLC as well as Lethbridge Police and Fire and Emergency Services to come up with the best plan.

“We want to ensure the comfort and security of all our guests on site and that’s why we’re taking our time (developing a policy). We will come up with the best plan going forward.”, says Warkentin

Officials in Calgary decided to ban recreational pot use on the ground during this month’s Stampede.

Warkentin notes when it comes to Whoop-Up Days, it’s the pot consumption piece they’re trying to get a handle on going forward.

This will be the first Whoop-Up Days since recreational marijuana use was legalized last year.

Warkentin says the hope to have a policy in place in early August.
