Residents reminded to change smoke detector batteries, alongside clocks this weekend

Officials are reminding people across Lethbridge that with the clocks falling back this weekend, it’s a perfect time to also make sure smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working in the home.

City of Lethbridge Fire & Emergency Services officials say the expiry date on detectors should be reviewed annually and putting in fresh batteries is an important step to ensure they are working properly. Officials say if your smoke detector is more than 10 years-old, it will need to be replaced. It’s suggested that families also take a few minutes to make sure everyone in your home recognizes the sound of the smoke alarm and knows what to do in case of a fire.
