Milk River RCMP is reminding drivers to slow down when passing stopped emergency vehicles with their lights on after an officer was almost struck by a vehicle while conducting a traffic stop.
According to police on February 22nd the officer was conducting speed enforcement near Warner on Highway 4 when the vehicle passed him without slowing down or attempting to move into the other lane. Officials say the vehicle “narrowly missed” hitting the officer.
A 30-year man from Ontario received a ticket for exceeding the maximum speed limit when passing a stopped emergency vehicle or tow truck with flashing lights. Officials say the driver was given the option to voluntarily pay a $991 fine.
In a release, officials say “Doing traffic enforcement is an important part of the job and everyone wants to go home at the end of the day.”
