Cornstock ’23 set to hit Taber this summer

If you’re a fan of classic rock and live music, Cornstock ’23 is the festival for you.

Created by Ken Holst, Owner and President of Spider Entertainment, and taking place down the road in Taber this summer, will feature some of the greatest bands from the 80s and 90s— Honeymoon Suite, Toronto, Prism and Harlequin.

According to Holst, Spider Entertainment is just over a year old now, and his goal of putting Taber on the map as one of the premiere concert venues in Southern Alberta is slowly becoming a reality.

“My goal is to put the town of Tabor on the map for the premiere concert and a live event area of Alberta, especially southern Alberta,” says Holst.

The summer before the pandemic, Holst and his wife attended 17 outdoor concerts, this is when they both started to think why not create their own concert.

“My wife and I, we love going to concerts and the summer before COVID hit, we went to 17 outdoor concerts that summer, and so this was sort of a dream that we kind of thought about before and post COVID. We thought, you know, instead of going to concerts, why don’t we start looking at bringing them to us.”

After linking up with cover band Toque and bringing them to Taber last summer, Holst ended up making some contacts in the business.

The goal was to work up to a larger festival in 3 or 4 years, but things quickly started to blow up for them and decided to create Cornstock ’23, a festival that Holst is hoping to make an annual event.

One worry that Holst did have was that the name Cornstock would be confused with Cornfest, the annual festival that happens in Taber in August, something Cornstock ’23 has no affiliation with.

Cornstock ’23 will be happening July 28th to 29th in the fenced park area of the Taber Youth Centre, campsites are also available, Legion Park, which is already sold out, and Ken McDonald Park will be overflow camping.

Tickets are available right now for Cornstock ’23 at Spider Entertainment, where early bird prices are still happening.
