FortisAlberta has relocated its operations centre from Lethbridge to a new net zero office building in Coaldale. It moved into the newly constructed building in February and the company says it is a more central location for the large area it serves.
The office has solar panels on the roof and outside and the building is designed to produce the same or more energy than it consumes in a year.
“This new facility provided us an opportunity to test net zero building standards in an operational context,” says Janine Sullivan, FortisAlberta president and CEO. “By integrating environmentally responsible design and construction standards with our specific operational requirements, we are demonstrating for our customers that net zero designs are achievable in a commercial and industrial setting.”
Local employees manage more than 21,000 services from the service point. This includes the towns of Coaldale, Coalhurst, Magrath, Milk River, Nobleford, Picture Butte and Raymond and the Villages of Barons, Carmangay, Coutts, Stirling and Warner. It spans parts of the counties of Cardston, Taber, Warner, Willow Creek, Lethbridge and Vulcan.
The company says its 32 employees who live and work in the community have already been set up in the new Coaldale facility.
