Two in custody after Town of Taber employees take down suspect in police chase

Two people are in custody and one police officer has minor injuries after Taber police responded to a stolen vehicle driving erratically through town.

The Taber Police Service says officers approached a man and woman after they left an allegedly stolen vehicle parked. The man resisted and one officer was injured before a foot chase ensued. He was stopped by two Town of Taber Public Works employees who were nearby, according to police.

“This was a public arrest made in the middle of the afternoon in a residential area,” reads a statement from police chief Graham Abela. “I am thankful for the professionalism of our officers and for the assistance of the two public works employees that came to our aid.”

Police say charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
